Kanlı Divane Ruins
Kanlıdivane is an ancient city located in Erdemli district of Mersin today. It is estimated that the city, which was founded in the 3rd century BC and whose name was changed to Neapolis in the 4th century AD, is the extension of Elaiussa Sebaste outside the city walls. Discovered by the French traveler Victor Langlois in the mid-19th century, the city was unearthed during excavations in the 1970s. The first archaeological research in the region was carried out by Semavi Eyice. The city was built around a large pothole 30 meters deep, which is a natural depression. Today, Kanlıdivane hosts concerts in events such as the International Mersin Music Festival, as its acoustics are very good.
