Kanlı Sırt Monument and Inscription
This inscription is on the asphalt road from Kabatepe to Conkbayri. Before coming to Bombastırı and 57th Regiment, it is possible to see the sign of the inscription and itself on the right of the road.
Kanlısırt has been the point where the most important and hottest conflicts took place on the Arıburnu front since the 25th of April, when the land wars began.
The main center of gravity of the 6 August offensive, which we can call the 3rd stage of the Dardanelles Wars (first stage: 18 March, the second stage of the 25 April Landing), is the Kocaçimen Tepe – Conkbayri line. The August 6 attacks on the bloody ridge were to keep the Turkish army in place and to prevent the dispatch of soldiers to the main operation center. It was also aimed to capture the Karayörük creek just below its bloody ridge. Since Karayörük Stream is the most important supply route of the Arıburnu front, the loss of this place meant that the Arıburnu front was also lost.
The fighting in the Loneback was fierce, both because of the sewers and the intertwined trench lines. Due to the narrowness of the area during intense fighting, so much blood was spilled on this ridge that it was nicknamed "Lonefoot".
This monumental inscription was erected in memory of our martyrs and veterans who heroically defended these positions in these great battles. It is written in the Kanlısırt Inscription:
“The Anzac Corps attacked the Turkish forces in the Arıburnu Front, which was defended by the 19th and 16th Divisions, in order to facilitate the achievement of the 9th British Corps, which landed in the Anafartalar Region on 6-7 August 1915. Despite the fact that the 16th Division units lost 1520 martyrs and 4750 wounded in the fierce battles, they heroically defended Kanlısırt.”
