The harbour, known to have been used by the Genoese in ancient times for the shipment of local products and salt, was a connection point for the transport between Istanbul and Bursa until the first years of the Republic. The products grown in and around the Bursa Plain were sent to Istanbul and other cities by ships from Kapanca.
