Kayalıdere Ancient City
Kayalıdere Ancient City, located 20 km from Varto district of Muş and 40 km from the city center, is mostly known for its Urartian Rock Tombs and is an Urartian settlement. II. The city, which is estimated to have been built during the Sarduri period, was used as a military settlement at that time. The most intact structures in Muş can be found here. Today, some objects found as a result of excavations in the ancient city of Kayalıdere, which attracts many local and foreign tourists, are located in the Ankara Anatolian Civilizations Museum. Bronze lion statues, arches with lion depictions and arrow heads are the most striking finds in the excavations. Located in Kayalıdere Village, the ancient city is a paradise for history buffs.
