Khan El Barur

Located in Göktaş Village, 20 km southeast of Harran, this caravanserai from the Ayyubid period is partially ruined. Located on the Harran-Baghdad road route in the mountainous region known as the Tektek Mountains, the caravanserai bears all the characteristics of Anatolian Seljuk caravanserais with its entrance gate, corner towers, buttress towers, masjid (restored and put into use in 1993), bathhouse, summer and winter quarters. Measuring 43.30x44.80 meters, the caravanserai surrounds a square courtyard and consists of summer and winter quarters. There are two inscriptions, one on the north and the other on the west. According to the inscription on the entrance gate, this caravanserai was built by Isa oglu el-Hac Hüsameddin Ali H.626/M. 1228-1229. Considering that the Ayyubids dominated the region at this time, it is understood that the caravanserai was built in 1228 during the Ayyubid period.
