Kucukanafartalar Gun Emplacements

Unable to make progress on the Seddülbahir and Arıburnu Fronts during the four months from 25 April 1915, when the Allied landings on the Gallipoli Peninsula began, until August, Hamilton chose to open a third front. The aim here was to encircle the Ottoman forces on both fronts, which were showing stiff resistance, by going to the back line. Hamilton opened the third front by landing the British 9th Corps on Suvla beach between the Small and Big Kemikli headlands. The British 9th Corps were reinforcements withdrawn from the European fronts in late May 1915. Until that date, it had been gathered in Limni and Gökçeada. With the landing on the night of 6-7 August, these troops would reach the Dardanelles from the Kocaçimentepe - Conkbayırı line and encircle the defending Ottoman forces.
