Mahmutbey Mosque
The Mahmutbey Mosque, which was built in 1366 during the period of the Candaroğulları Principality, one of the principalities established after the collapse of the Anatolian Seljuk State, has a distinguished place among the wooden ceiling and wooden supported mosques in Anatolia. One of the eye-catching and most important elements of the mosque is the door made by Abdullah, son of Nakkaş Mahmut from Ankara. While the original of this door, which has very few examples in Turkey, is located in Kastamonu Ethnography Museum Liva Pasha Mansion for security reasons, a similar one made by a local wood carving master was placed in its place. All wooden surfaces inside the mosque are decorated with madder and pencil work, and all these decorations are still in their original form. As a result of the evaluation made by UNESCO on April 15, 2014, Mahmutbey Mosque was entitled to be included in the World Heritage Tentative List.
