Manisa Castle
The history of the castle, which is unknown when it was built, is thought to date back to the Hellenistic Period. It is estimated that the castle was damaged in the earthquake that took place in 17 BC. Also known as Sandık Kale, the inner castle was built in 1222 during the reign of John the 3rd. The walls were strengthened in the 14th century. Saruhanoğulları Principality, which established dominance in the city in 1313, built the Fetih Masjid within the city walls. The first repair in the Turkish period took place in 1553. In 1657, the soldiers in the castle were transferred to the Sancakburnu Castle, which was built in İzmir.
