Manzikert Castle

Castle is in Manzikert. It has a majestic appearance. Two parallel ramparts of the castle surrounding the town were repaired. In Islamic sources, this castle witnessed many wars both in the first period of Islam and during the Byzantine period. The main sign and bastions of the castle, which surrounds the old Manzikert, attract attention with these historical features. Its walls were destroyed in natural disasters. It has been repaired at various times. Repairs continue today, albeit partially. According to the legend, there was a king named Teymus at their head, while the firefighters lived around the Manzikert Castle. When Bashir, one of the Shah's children, brought faith in Allah, his father, Teymus Shah, exiled Bashir from Manzikert by cutting his tongue from the bottom, and came to Mecca, where the Muslims were, after learning the situation. Ali gathered an army of Companions and marched on Manzikert. In the war, Teymus Shah and his companions were put to the sword. Hazrat Ali came to the village of Şahneder, which is now a district of the district, with his army and wanted to stay there. The soldiers wanted to drink water from the fountain in the village because they were tired and thirsty. It was built by the Byzantines in the 10th century. This Castle, which is referred to as the "Berber Castle" in Islamic sources, was the scene of many wars both in the first periods of the Muslims and in the times of the Byzantines. The main and other bastions of the castle, which surrounds the old Manzikert, attract attention with these historical features. It was made of black hard stones and Khorasan Mortar was used.
