Mecidiye Bridge

Mecidiye Bridge, also known as Meriç Bridge, is a bridge that started to be built in 1842 during the reign of Abdülmecit and was completed in 1847. It is located on the Edirne-Karaağaç road, on the Meriç River. It is 263 meters long, 7 meters wide, has 12 pointed arches on 13 feet and has features inclined to the sides. It is known that there was an iron lightning rod in the form of a sun motif on the dome of the bridge, which is a historical mansion with marble inscriptions. Inside the dome of the historical mansion of the bridge, there are wall paintings with a view of Edirne. In both parts of the bridge, piers were built with cut stones so that ships, boats and boats can dock. As a matter of fact, before the stone bridge was built, river trade was carried out over the river to the inner parts of the Balkans.
