Mehmet Akif Ersoy House

The memories of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the poet of the Turkish National Anthem, the symbol of the Turkish nation's struggle for independence, are kept alive in the house where he spent a part of his childhood in Bayramiç district of Çanakkale.

Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who was born in 1873 as the daughter of Emine Şerif Hanım, the daughter of a family who came to Anatolia from Bukhara, and Mehmet Tahir Efendi, who was born in Kosovo, one of the madrasah teachers, also took his first steps as a hafiz in Bayramiç, where he learned how to swim and wrestle. Akif immigrated from Bayramiç, where he lived until the age of 11, to Istanbul with his family due to the appointment of his father, who worked in Karşıyaka Mosque. The house where the family lived was purchased by Bayramiç Municipality and rebuilt in 2016 within the scope of the protocol prepared with İÇDAŞ, one of Turkey's heavy industry establishments. This two-storey house has been converted into a museum in order to keep Akif's memories alive.

Welcoming its visitors 7 days a week, Mehmet Akif Ersoy House has a wax statue on the ground floor that symbolizes the moment when Emine Şerife Hanım sat at the table. On the second floor of the museum, the moment when Mehmet Tahir Efendi is sitting on the sofa and the 11-year-old version of Mehmet Akif Ersoy are portrayed. In addition, in the special room on this floor, there is a animation of Akif reading the newspaper by checking his writings at his desk. On the other corner of the table, where the large-size version of the identity card is found, is Ersoy's work "Safahat", which brings together the poems in 7 poetry books published between 1911 and 1933.

In the other sections of the museum, which includes hundreds of books about Akif, as well as many photographs of him and the original passport photo taken on the day he became a member of parliament for the first time, visitors are welcomed with a large number of antiques brought by the residents of the district.
