Mehmet Şakir Efendi Complex
Mehmet Şakir Suntay (Gedikhasanlı Şakir Efendi) is originally from the Cami-i Kebir District of Kayseri and belongs to a family that settled in the Gedikhasanlı Village of Yozgat. He is the middle son of Ali Efendi, who is from this family known as Cücezadeler in Kayseri. He was born in Yozgat in 1853. He started his education in the village where he was born and then finished Osmanpaşa Madrasa. Afterwards, he went to Kayseri and received a license from a well-known ulema, muritzade Ali Efendi and others, and returned to Yozgat. Mehmed Şakir Efendi worked as a professor at Demirli Madrasa in Yozgat both in the Ottoman Period and in the Republican Period. After working as a mudarres for a while in the Osmanpaşa Madrasah, where he studied, he retired to his village after the closure of the madrasas and became an imam and preacher and continued to guide his people. He trained countless students throughout his life in Yozgat and Osmanpaşa. Notably the Nakshi Sheikh Şeyhzade Ahmet Efendi and names such as Mufti Hulusi Akyol became the students of Şakir Hoca Efendi.
Şakir Efendi, who has knowledge in religious sciences, Arabic, Hadith and especially Qur'an sciences, and Tafsir, gave a ruus (doctoral) exam; It is stated by those around him who are close to the issue that he did not accept this salary from the state even though he was allocated a salary to the learned scholar; but no official document has been found on this subject. Although Mehmet Şakir Efendi was physically healthy, he lost both eyes in the last years of his life. He died in Gedikhasanlı Village in 1937 and was buried in the village cemetery. The tomb was built by his lovers as a visiting place and is still visited today.
