Mersin Ataturk House Museum

Atatürk and his wife Latife Hanım stayed in this house for eleven days during their visit to Mersin between 20 January and 2 February 1925. The building, which is located at the focal point of the city on Atatürk Street, was built as a residence in 1897 due to the marriage of the German Consul of the time, Mr. Christman, to the daughter of the merchant Mavromati from Mersin. The building, whose architect is unknown, is known as Krisman (Krizman) Mansion. The house, which was owned by the Tahinci family for a while, was bought by Nebil Hayfavi in 1972 and served as Toros College until 1976. The name of this building, which was kept empty after 1976, became Atatürk House with a decision taken by the municipal committee in the same year. It was nationalized in 1980 and passed into the ownership of the Ministry of Culture in 1982. It was officially opened as Atatürk House and Museum on 12 October 1992.
