Muğla Kurşunlu Mosque
Kurşunlu Mosque is an Ottoman-era mosque located in Menteşe Balibey Neighborhood. It was built in 1493 upon the request of Esseyyid Şucaeddin Bey, one of the Menteşe lords. Its architecture has the characteristics of classical Ottoman architecture. The mosque, which served as a madrasah with 30 classrooms before it was opened to use as a mosque, is now one of the must-see places. In 1900, the last congregation place was added by Şerif Efendi, and its minaret was built by Hacı İsmail in the same years. The most important feature that distinguishes Kurşunlu Mosque from other mosques is that its dome was covered with lead during the repair in 1853. Kurşunlu mosque has a history of 510 years. In many respects, it has been restored and has survived to the present day. The hand-drawn ornaments inside the mosque were processed with madder brought from Rhodes. The pictures of the Kaaba and the sailing ship in the mosque are worth seeing. The body walls made of smooth cut stone bear the characteristics of Seljuk Architecture. Kurşunlu Mosque is included in Evliya Çelebi's Travel Book. It is an extremely valuable work that was made during the period when the Ottomans dominated these lands.
