Muğla Şeyh Bedrettin Mosque

Şeyh Bedrettin Mosque, located in the Müştakbey district, was built in 1565 by the ulema Sheikh Bedrettin. The minaret of the mosque was added at the beginning of the 19th century. Sheikh Mosque underwent two repairs in the 19th century, and the first one was repaired in 1831 by Umm Gülsüm Hatun, the wife of Menteşe Mütesellimi (state officer who collected taxes before the Tanzimat) Tavaslı Osman Ağa. Osman Ağa also had extensive foundations established in the mosque. The second repair was made by Şerif Efendi and Ragıp Efendi in 1896. The mosque, which served for many years after this date, was restored on 20 June 2007 and gained a new look. After the repairs they saw, not much of its old historical state remained. Only the inscription to the right of the entrance door has survived to this day. In addition, the only real treasure of the mosque, the tomb of Sheikh Bedrettin, who gave the mosque its name, is located there.
