Museum Kunstpalast
The roots of the museum go back about 300 years. In 1932 the collection of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Academy of Arts) was housed in the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf. This included exhibits given by the popular regent, Duke Jan Wellem of Palatinate, and his wife, Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, and some wealthy Düsseldorf citizens. The Academy was founded in 1710, its collection expanded in the 19th century with the collection of Lambert Krahe. Founded in the 19th century, the Düsseldorfer Gallerieverein collected many drawings of the Düsseldorfer Malerschule, which were later given to this collection. The Museum of Advanced Arts, which was opened in 1883, later merged with this museum. In its true form, the Kunstmuseum opened in 1913. Later, the Museumsverein (Museum Association) and Künstler-Verein zur Veranstaltung von Kunstausstellungen (Association of Artists for the Realization of Art Exhibitions) collaborated in the organization of art exhibitions, and the foundation Stiftung Museum Kunstpalast was established in 1998. In January 2020, the NRW Forum became part of Kunstpalast.
