Namazgah (Azepler Mosque)
Azaplar (Azepler) Prayer Place, located in Gelibolu Fener Square, which is a wide area against the Dardanelles and the Marmara Sea, was built in 1407 by Hacı Paşaoğlu İskender Bey. It is thought that the soldiers of Azap prayed here before they set out on an expedition.
Places of worship arranged for praying in the open air are called namazgahs. The Azaplar Namazgah, which is the most well-known and magnificent among the prayer places, has two pulpits, one with a cone and the other with an open pulpit, and a marble mihrab. There are ornate windows on the sides of the mihrab. Its inscribed door is sliced and rumi decorated. The mihrab is in a niche made of marble.
Taraweeh prayers are performed by the Mufti of Gallipoli in the Azaplar (Azepler) Namazgah during the hot month of Ramadan.
