National Museum of Photography
The foundation of Balıkesir Photography Museum was laid with the opening of a special section in the Kuvay-ı Milliye Museum where cameras and accessories are exhibited. Balıkesir Art Photographers Association (BASAF), which created this special department in 1996, started working on the establishment of an independent photography museum. The 150-year-old stone building, which was used as a dormitory in the past, was allocated to BASAF by the Balikesir Governor's Office in 2002 with the instruction of Governor Utku Acun to be used as a photography museum and show center. The vacant land next to the building was donated to the association by the Balikesirli Tan family.
