Nuri Yamut Memorial

It is located at the end of the highway, after passing Sargıyeri Martyrs Cemetery, in the west direction of Alçıtepe village and approximately 2 km away from the village. The remains of the bodies of the soldiers who lost their lives in this region, which was the scene of very violent clashes, were unearthed in the settlement and agricultural activities in the village of Alçıtepe between 1934-1936. The bones of our soldiers who were martyred in Zığındere at the end of June and in the following battles were buried under the plinth in the monument with the inscription "Martyrdom1915". On a hill overlooking the Gulf of Saros in the village of Alçıtepe while Nuri Yamut was the Commander of the 2nd Corps of Gallipoli, he had a monument built in 1943 in the name of 6,395 privates and non-commissioned officers who were martyred in the Zığındere Wars between June 26 and July 12, 1915. This monument is the first private monument after Mehmet Sergeant Monument. It is said that the Pasha sold his two houses in Istanbul to have this monument built and the bones of the martyrs in the region were collected and buried under the marble plinth.
