Öküz Mehmet Pasha Complex

Ulukışla Öküz Mehmet Pasha Complex is a Menzil Complex as of its construction. The complex is located in the center of Ulukışla, on the Ankara-Adana highway, in the "Marketplace". The building complex is popularly known as Pasha Han, Barracks, Ulukışla Caravanserai. The district took its current name from the Caravanserai. According to some researchers, it is reported that the complex was used as a barracks for the soldiers who went on an expedition, as well as for the caravan passengers. The fact that Öküz Mehmet Pasha, who built the complex, was originally from Ulukışla is also effective in the formation of the building. There are many explanations and evaluations about the structure. This complex was the inspiration for Faruk Nafiz Çamlıbel, one of the well-known poets of Turkish literature, for his poem "Inn Walls". As a result of the decline that started in the Ottoman Empire in the 17th century and after the Celali revolts and the campaigns to the east, Öküz Mehmet Pasha saw that there was no winter quarters for accommodation in this place during the Iran Campaign in 1615, and he had this complex built after the campaign.
