Palu Castle

Palu Castle has a history of approximately 3000 years. The most important of the works in the Palu Castle are the works of the Urartian period. Palu Castle, which carries the traces of many civilizations, is located 1 km east of our district. Surrounded by the Murat River in its south and southeast parts, it is a fortress suitable for natural defense and difficult to capture, as it is steep rocky in the north and west. In fact, Evliya Çelebi writes that Timur saw this castle and passed by without even trying to capture it. Many artifacts from the Urartian period have survived to the present day in Palu Castle. There are many structures that are rarely seen on earth such as inscriptions, rock tombs, rock tunnels, temples, water cisterns, worship niches, rock stairs and rock warehouses. Some sources state that Artuklu Ruler Belek Gazi married Seljuk Hatun Ayşe Hatun in Palu Castle and had her wedding in this castle.
