Pasaport Ferry Pier

Pasaport Ferry Pier is a ferry pier opened for service for gulf ferries providing transportation within the city of Izmir. It is located on the southern shore of Izmir Gulf within the borders of Konak central district and northwest of Cumhuriyet Square. It is north of Konak Ferry Pier and south of Alsancak Ferry Pier, which are other nearby piers. The pier was built between 1867-1886. The pier building was used as the passport office of the Ottoman Empire at that time. The current name "passport" also dates back to that time. However, the pier building was damaged during the Great Izmir Fire that started in 1922, right after the liberation of Izmir. The pier building was rebuilt in 1926 during Kazım Dirik's governorship and put into service as the gulf ferry operations building. The building was built in the 1st National Architecture style. The pier was restored by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in 2003. The pier was closed for about a month in August 2015 for repairs. It was then taken into maintenance again in October 2020. A floating dock was brought from Urla to provide temporary service during the works, which were completed in January 2021.
