Pasaport Pier

The pier was built between 1867-1886. The Pier building was used as the passport office of the Ottoman Empire at that time. The current name "Passport" also dates from that time. However, the pier building was damaged during the Great Fire of Izmir in 1922, which started right after the liberation of Izmir. The Pier building was rebuilt in 1926, during Kazım Dirik's governorship, and was put into service as the gulf ferry operations building. The building was built in the 1st National Architectural style. The pier was restored in 2003 by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The pier was closed for about a month in August 2015 due to repairs. It was later re-maintained in October 2020. During the works completed in January 2021, a floating dock was brought from Urla to serve temporarily.
