Pehlivanköy Akarca Bridge
It is located on the Ergene River on the Uzunköprü-Edirne road. It was built to overcome the abundant water of the Ergene River, which hindered the Ottoman Empire's expansion from Anatolia to the Balkans. The bridge was built around the large round arch in the center with a total of 7 arches. The bridge is still in use to this day. According to the inscription, the upper half of which is broken and therefore undated, the exact year of construction is unknown. However, considering the construction method, material and purpose of use, it is most likely the 16th century. Rumor has it that the bridge was built by a master named Pavlu, but despite all efforts, it was not possible to fix the vault in the center. It is also rumored that the master who built the bridge suggested that saving the central vault was possible only by sacrificing a brave person and burying him in the wall. Therefore, as a last resort, they decided to draw lots among the women who brought them food and to sacrifice the woman who came out. But unfortunately, the woman who won the lottery had just had a baby and was breastfeeding her baby. However, they sacrificed the woman the next day and buried her in the safe. Finally, the safe was complete. For this reason, it is said that the voice of a woman crying every Friday night can be heard at the abutment and milk flows between the two stones. These are the Byzantine period works in Vize Asmakayalar District. They were created by stonemasons using a series of rows of natural caves. The presence of rock tombs with similar characteristics in the immediate vicinity is also striking. Part of the monastery is used as a barn.
