Piri Mehmet Pasha Mosque

The mosque was built on the ruins of the Ay.Yorgi Church during the Ottoman rule. The exact year of construction is unknown. Lefke Piri Mehmet Pasha Mosque was converted from a church to a mosque during the Arab raids. Cyprus joined the Ottoman lands with the operation organized by the Ottoman Empire in 1570-1571. Mehmet Bey, grandson of Pir Pasha, one of the viziers of Suleiman the Magnificent, also participated in the operation. In the establishment of the Turkish order, Mehmet Bey became the Banner of Paphos and Lefke joined this sanjak. Mehmet Bey saw this ruined mosque during his visit to Lefke and renovated and built this venerable mosque, whose genealogy dates back to Hazrat Abu Bakr, and gave the mosque the name of Pir Pasha, after his grandfather.
