Rumeli Fortress

Rumeli Fortress (also known as Boğazkesen Fortress) is the castle located on the Bosphorus in the Sarıyer district of Istanbul, which gives its name to the district where it is located. It was built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet before the conquest of Istanbul, in the narrowest part of the Bosphorus, right opposite the Anatolian Fortress on the Anatolian side, in order to prevent attacks that could come from the Black Sea.

The castle covers an area of ​​30 acres. The three large towers of the castle, which was completed in a short time of ninety days, have the largest bastions in the world. Rumeli Fortress is referred to as Kulle-i Cedide in the Fatih foundation charter; On the publication date of Yenice Hisar; It was known as Boğazkesen Castle during the periods of Kemalpaşazade, Aşıkpaşazade and Nişancı.

Rumeli Hisarı Concerts have been held at the venue for many years.

Rumeli Fortress is used as a museum today. There are open exhibitions in the castle but no exhibition hall. Artifacts consisting of cannons, cannonballs and a piece of the chain said to close the Golden Horn are exhibited in the garden.
