Rüstempasha Mosque

Rüstempaşa Mosque, which was built by Mimar Sinan in Yalova by Rüstem Pasha, one of the Ottoman pashas in the 17th century, defies years. Despite many disasters and earthquakes, the mosque is still open to the public with a few restorations over the years. The Rüstempaşa Mosque was partially damaged in the 17 August Marmara Earthquake, was restored. The historical monument, which was also registered by Bursa Foundations Regional Directorate, still manages to stand upright despite all these years. Within the scope of researches, the mosque is mentioned as Rüstempaşa Mosque in many documents. According to research on September 26, 1879, the mosque is known as the Çarşı Mosque. Indeed, it is considered very natural for the building to be mentioned in this way due to the fact that it is both the oldest and the center. The mosque is also included in Evliya Çelebi's Travel Book. Evliya Çelebi, who was in and around Yalova in the 17th century, talks about the existence of a domed mosque with a minaret. Although it is not specified whether this mosque is the Rüstempaşa Mosque or another mosque, it is stated that this structure, on which Telhisi Mustafa Efendi also noted, was possible to be called Rüstem Pasha at that time.
