Sabri Yılmaz Huyta Water Mill
The 300-year-old water mill in Çatak Mahallesi, Kavaklıdere district of Muğla, continues to turn its wheels despite advances in technology.
Defying the proverb “You can't run a mill with carried water,” the historic mill, which is powered by water channeled from the Göktepe stream by its owner, loses efficiency during the summer months due to a drop in water flow.
The water mill called “Huytu” in the Çatak neighborhood has been serving farmers from surrounding villages who want to grind their products for about 300 years.
The tons of stone powered by water in the historic mill has been grinding for centuries.
The historic water mill contributes to the production of organic flour by grinding the products of citizens in the surrounding villages and districts, as well as in Çatak. Thanks to the water mill, local residents enjoy the satisfaction of grinding their wheat, barley, and corn naturally.
