Sakarya Orhan Mosque

Historical Mosque / Turkiye, Marmara, Sakarya, Adapazarı

Sakarya Orhan Mosque

During the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Orhan Bey, when Konuralp, who was Orhangazi's comrade in arms, captured Akyazı and the small castles on both sides of Sakarya, some Turkmen settled in these forested and watery places, and a village was established in the place where the present city is today. A mosque was built in the name of Orhan Bey in the place of the mosque called "Orhan Mosque".

The mosque, which was built with a roof in the style of Sultan Hamid with high windows, is probably larger than the old building. The date 1316/1318 on the minaret shows the year of this second construction.

The mosque, which is a new building today; It was built in the name of "Orhan Gazi" when Adapazarı was still a village, and when it was demolished over time, the "Orhan Mosque" with the same name was built with the initiative of Nüzhet Pasha, who was the district governor in Adapazarı between 1893-1894, and with the help of the people.

The roof of Orhan Mosque, located on Bankalar street, is wooden and covered with tiles. It has a single minaret. Although the minaret, which was destroyed in the 1967 earthquake, was rebuilt by the master named “Akyazılı Ali Akyüz” in 1968, the minaret was restored after the 1999 earthquake.
