Samsun Historical Clock Tower
Coming to the throne in 1876, II. In 1886, the tenth anniversary of his accession to the throne, Abdülhamit sent an instruction to the governors and ordered clock towers to be erected in the cities. The construction of the clock tower, which was started to be built in the area called Pier Square in the Trabzon provincial yearbooks at that time, ended in 1887 and was opened on Monday, May 9, 1887. Ünye stone was used as the material in the clock tower, which was built by a Belgian-born French engineer, and the overlapping stonework system was preferred as the construction technique. The tower, which was built with a polygonal base and body, was used as a watchtower because it was built higher than the houses, as well as showing the time.
