Sarıkız Hill

Sarıkız Hill is the highest peak of Kaz Mountains, which is one of the most magnificent breathing areas of our country and forms a natural border between Marmara and Aegean. Today there is a statue of a girl with a goose against a wonderful sea view. This statue is also based on a very interesting legend. According to the legend, the reason why it is called Sarıkız Hill; Sarıkız, who was born in a village of Ayvacık, lost her mother at a young age. The father, who lives alone with Sarıkız, tells his daughter that he wants to leave these places one day. Thereupon, father and daughter settled in Kavurmacılar Village at the foot of Kaz Mountain. The villagers soon thought that the shepherd father here was a saint, and they often came to him for advice. One day, his father wants to go on a pilgrimage. Sarıkız encourages her father to go. The father entrusts his daughter to his neighbor and leaves. In the absence of the father, the young men of the village aspire to the girl, but Sarkız does not want anyone. Then they spread rumors about Sarıkız. When the girl's father returned from the pilgrimage, no one greeted him or spoke to him. The father asks his neighbor, to whom he entrusted Sarıkız, why. He says the girl is on the wrong track. The father realizes that the only way to clean his honor is to kill the girl. One day, he takes the girl to the hill, which is today's Sarıkız Hill, but he can't bear to kill her. She left Sarıkız on this hill with a few geese she took with her because she thought it would be food for wild animals. Years pass and travelers who visit the area say that when they lost their way on the mountain, a yellow girl helped them and they even had a goose. According to the rumor, Sarıkız became a saint. Hearing these rumors, the father goes up the hill to see his daughter and wants to pray when he sees her. This is the story of the hill.
