Sarissa Ancient City
It is located in the village of Başören, in the village of Altınyayla, in the hamlet of Akkuzu. This is about 60 km away from Sivas city centre. You can go via Sivas-Şarkışla road. The road is at an altitude of 1650 meters. It is an important settlement with the remains of a 1950-step city wall. Entrance to the city is provided through 4 gates on the city wall.
During the archaeological excavations, it was learned that the name of the city was "Sarissa" by reading the hieroglyphic writing on an amorphous ceramic piece. This name is also on the tablets unearthed in the city during the excavations. It occurs in eight places and confirms the name of the city in the Hittite period. The reason why the local people call it belted is because of the walls here.
