Selime Cathedral

Selime Cathedral was built in two floors and is the largest cathedral in Cappadocia. The cathedral dates to the eighth and ninth centuries. In the cathedral, there are important frescoes depicting the ascension of Jesus into heaven and the Virgin Mary.

The first loud ritual was held in Selime Cathedral. The structures, most of which were built as churches and carved from the rocks, bear the traces of Byzantine art. It is also noteworthy that the upper part of the cathedral was built as a fortress.
