Seyifler Castle

Seyifler Castle is a historical Byzantine castle near the village of Seyifler, Ferizli district of Sakarya province. It is a small castle measuring 80*80 m. The exact date of construction of the castle is unknown, and it is thought to have been built in the 12th or 13th centuries. It was founded on the peninsula where Sakarya River meets Çark Stream, on a strategic area called "Mesonesion" (= Middle Island) in Antiquity. From the castle to the present, two towers on the side of the stream and a wall stretching between them; In the area behind it, which was used as a field, the remains of thick walls were largely destroyed and the foundations remained intact. In its construction, covered stone walls filled with rubble stones were used.

Seyifler (Kara Çepiş) Castle and Harmantepe (Ab-ı Sufi) Castle were considered important for the conquest of the areas north of the Sakarya River. The conquest proposal of the castles was personally made by Akça Koca to Orhan Bey. Seyifler Castle became the base of Orhan Gazi and was used for conquests to the Black Sea coast, west and southeast. Immediately after the establishment of the Ottoman Principality, with the conquests of Seyifler, Kapucak (Kaynarca) Hisar, Göl-begi (Cave) and Karasu (Kerasse) castles, as early as August 1304, it was a great political and military establishment with coastlines from Kocaali-Karasu coast to Kocaeli borders. has become powerful. The castle is at the entrance of Seyifler village, 30 km from the city center.
