Seyit Onbaşı Monument and Mecidiye Bastion

It is located in the Rumeli Mecidiye Bastion. It was built to symbolize the heroism of all our Mehmetçik and at this point Seyit Corporal, who heroically resisted the allied armada, which aimed to cross the Bosphorus and reach Istanbul on 18 March 1915. There is also a statue made by the sculptor Hüseyin Anka Özkan by the roadside on the sea side of the Mecidiye Bastion. Born in 1889 in the Manastır village of Edremit Havran district (the village was named after Çamlık and then Koca Seyit village), Topçu Corporal Seyit's father's name is Abdurrahman and his mother's name is Emine. According to the records: His military service in Çanakkale Fortified Area started in 1914 as a "heavy artillery soldier" and ended in 1918. He took the surname "Çabuk" with the Surname Law of 1934. After he was discharged, he returned to his village and died on December 1, 1939, at the age of 50, while he was making a living by making and selling charcoal in the mountains. Today, his grave is located in his own village.

It is on the sea side of the road, 1 km ahead of Kilitbahir. On the other side of the road is the Mecidiye Bastion Martyrdom and Monument, where Seyit Corporal's friends who were martyred on March 18 are buried.

On March 18, the most intense and important day of the Dardanelles naval wars, the most important target of the Allied navy was the bastions. The Mecidiye Bastion, where Koca Seyit served, was also hit on March 18 and 16 soldiers were martyred. Koca Seyit, who survived this bombardment, carried the surviving cannon, the 276-kilogram shell, to his back with the help of Niğdeli Ali, fired 3 times and hit the battleship Ocean through the steering box in the third shot.

Because of this heroism that affected the fate of the war, Koca Seyit was given the rank of corporal. The memory of Seyit Corporal is kept alive with this statue by the sea right in front of the Mecidiye Bastion. The statue was renovated in 2006. The plaque on the monument reads:

SEYİT ONBAŞI

In a period when the naval war was going on with all its violence, 275 kg of the cannon whose crane broke down. He lifted it alone.
