Sillyon Ancient City

Sillyon is a castle and ancient city located in the Serik district of Antalya province. Sillyon, 15 km away from Serik district, is a castle built on a hill between Aspendos and Perge in Pamphylia. This castle is in ruins today. M.S. It was founded in the 2nd century on Koçhisar Hill, located near today's Yanköy, under the Kingdom of Pergamum. It was one of the richest castles of the ancient period. Since Sillyon was built on a steep-sided hill, there was no need to surround the city with walls. Walls, towers and battlements were erected only in the western and southwestern parts, where the slope is lowest. These display meticulous stonework and great technical expertise. It is called "Asar" by the local people. Sillyon, the ancient city bearing deep traces of history, dates back to B.C. He started minting coins bearing his name in the 3rd century. The name of the city, which probably changed to Sillyon in the Roman period, is mentioned as Sylviys on these coins. Sillyon, which was the bishopric center of the Byzantine period, lived in the Seljuk period. The ruins of the Sillyon ancient settlement, which we think is an important settlement in the Pamphylia region, are spread over the hill slopes, and on the west side of the hill there is the Acropolis surrounded by walls bearing traces of the Hellenistic period. These walls are completed by towers, gates and roads leading to the city. The gate of the city is on the walls on the western side of the hill. When you climb the hill, you can see house ruins and streets in the northwest, and the Seljuk Mosque, Byzantine Church and cistern in the west. There is a theater with a capacity of 8,000 people and an odeon next to it at the southwestern foot of the hill.
