St. Simon
St. Simon's Monastery, which has a very impressive stone work, is one of the historical places that does not receive the attention and care it deserves today. It is astonishing how large stone masses were brought there at that time. Before visiting the region, it would be useful to mix up some history and gather information about the region, because there is no information work in the visiting area. The monastery was built on a rectangular area of 132×160 meters. It is estimated that the monastery was built in the 6th century AD. It is mentioned that there are 3 churches, a baptistery and St. Simon's column in the monastery. St. Simeon Monastery draws attention with its story as well as its architectural and historical value. Having lost his family in the earthquake, Simeon dedicates himself to Christianity. Just as the famous philosopher Diogenes spent his life in a barrel, Simeon builds a column to be close to God and continues his life on this column. Over time, Simeon's followers are formed and they join this movement and establish the Stillit sect. The ruins of the monastery built by his followers after the death of St. Simeon and the column that Simeon is said to have stood on for 40 years continue to host its visitors today.
