Stone Houses and Streets

Kilis looks like an old Ottoman city, with its stone houses lining narrow streets, its mosques, dervish lodges, churches and synagogues. The city's old stone buildings have a unique architectural character suitable to the region. The Kilis Houses were handcrafted by master builders, with attention to detail and significant labor. The local limestone is one of the materials used in the houses, which retain heat in the winter and stay cool in the summer. The houses feature a series of sections spread over two floors, with iwans and a courtyard.
