Sultan Ahmet Mosque
Sultan Ahmet Mosque or Sultanahmet Mosque was built by the Ottoman Sultan Ahmed I between 1609 and 1617 on the historical peninsula in Istanbul by Architect Sedefkar Mehmed Ağa. The mosque is called the "Blue Mosque" by the Europeans because of its decoration with blue, green and white colored Iznik tiles, and the interior of its semi-domes and large dome, mostly blue. After the Hagia Sophia was converted from a mosque to a museum in 1935, it became the main mosque of Istanbul. In fact, it is one of the largest monuments in Istanbul, along with the Blue Mosque complex.
