Sümbüllü Church

Historical Church / Güzelyurt, Turkiye, Central Anatolia, Cappadocia, Aksaray

Sümbüllü Church

The church was designed with a longitudinal rectangular plan with a single nave. The monastery spaces were carved into the rock mass in two layers. There is a church at the bottom and a barrel vaulted space parallel to the façade, which is reached by a staircase at the top. The façade is roughly shaped at the bottom, while at the top it is divided into five space units by wall piers, with round-arched doors and blind niches built into these sections. A carefully processed blind-backed molding borders the façade at the top.
