Tarsus Great Mosque
Tarsus Grand Mosque is a historical mosque located in Tarsus district of Mersin province. The mosque was built on the site of a church in the same place. According to the inscription, the mosque was first built in the 9th century during the Abbasid Empire, and after the Abbasids left the region and the region passed back to Byzantium and the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, it was converted into a church. Later, the region was captured by Ramazanoğlu Principality. The mosque was built for the second time in 1579, when Ramazanoğulları was an autonomous principality under the Ottoman Empire, by Ramazanoğlu 3rd İbrahim Bey and took its current form. İbrahim Bey also had a covered bazaar built on the same date to cover the expenses of the mosque. (Kırkkaşık Bedesten) This covered bazaar is to the west of the mosque.
