Tokat Castle

Tokat Castle, the date of its construction and the unknown which civilization it was built by. The oldest traces of the castle belong to the 5th or 6th century, and it is known that the castle existed in these years. Although the cliffs on which the building is built have the characteristics of a natural castle, the walls and the rooms inside the castle were built by people. Considering the known history of the building, whose first settlers are unknown, it is known that the oldest settlers were Christian groups who migrated from Komana Pontica. The castle, which remained in the hands of the Eastern Roman Empire for many years after its construction, was captured by Danishmend Gazi in 1074 and the Great Seljuk State dominated the castle.[1] The castle, which came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire after the Seljuks, was repaired during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods and was used especially for defense purposes. The building, which was sometimes used as a prison for rebels and state administrators, was also called Çardak-ı Bedevi for this reason. III, also known as Dracula. Vlad is one of those who live in prison in this castle. During the Republic of Turkey, the castle gained cultural importance rather than being used for defense purposes.
