Tomb of Çandır Şah Sultan Hatun
Located in the Çandır District of Yozgat, this tomb belongs to Şah Sultan Hatun, the wife of Şahruh Bey, the son of the Dulkadir Ruler Alaüddevle Bey, and the daughter of Şehsuvar Bey. It is understood from the inscription dated H.905 written on the sarcophagus inside the tomb that the tomb was built between 1499-1500. On the right side of the sarcophagus in the tomb, “Eşhedü en la ilahe illallah ve Eşhedü enne Muhammeden Rasulullah,” on the left side of the tomb: “Shah Sultan binti Şahsuvar Beg to Hazihi meşhe-i deceased and forgiveness,” at the foot of the sarcophagus: “Senete hamse ve tis'a mie (905/1499-1500)”, the tomb belongs to Shah Sultan, the wife of Şahruh, son of Dulkadırlı Bey, Alauddevle. The tomb was also built by her husband Şahruh Bey.
Architectural Features: Shah Sultan Hatun Tomb is the most important example among the tombs with iwan in Anatolia. Under the Çandır Şah Sultan Hatun Cupola, the two doors opening to the deep iwan with cradle vaults are framed by smooth profiles, with an octagonal body built of smooth cut stone, an octagonal body and an inner dome, and the main part covered with a pyramidal roof from the outside. The crypt is descended with a three-step ladder. The entrance door to the body part coincides with the door of the crypt part. Marble-profile door frame ends with brow-arched profiles, which are organized with wide moldings from the outside, in a pointed shape. With slightly protruding profiles from the wall surface, the area above the main entrance with a pressure arch was evaluated with five rows of muqarnas, which are not too deep. In the space below these muqarnas rows, there are multi-layered flower motifs. The upper part of the barrel vault in the shape of a pointed arch of the iwan joins the profile of the tomb entrance with its pointed arch. In the transition to the dome inside, triangular pendentives filled with ornaments in the form of oyster shells were used. In the middle of the dome, there is a pear or drop-shaped keystone suspended. The crypt part is covered with a slightly depressed mirrored vault and has a square plan. It is illuminated by two crenellated windows from the south and north, and from the eastern entrance door. The body part is made of smooth cut stone and has a clean workmanship with a pyramidal cone.
