Traditional Muş Houses

The people of Muş, who live a life depending on their traditions, continue their lives in houses formed by the effect of the climate and their daily needs. These houses, which usually consist of two-storey stone structures close to each other in narrow streets, have become the symbol of Muş. Although the structure of the houses is similar to the houses in the surrounding areas, there are differences. There is a large courtyard in the garden and a barn in most of the houses with a food warehouse. The influence of the Seljuk culture shows itself on the windows. The window edges look like a helmet when viewed from the outside. In this way, it has a very aesthetic appearance. While there are bathrooms, toilets and kitchens on the first floor of the two-storey houses, the upper floor shows itself as a large hall and rooms gathered around the hall. If you have the chance to be in Muş, you should take a short stroll around the streets and see these houses that have managed to preserve their traditional life.
