Traditional Van Houses

It has the characteristics of the traditional Turkish house, the construction times of the traditional Van houses that have survived to the present day are compared to after the 1915 Armenian revolt and the Great Van Fire. Stone, adobe and wood materials were used to stand in the traditional Van house, which is one of the important heirs of the heritage of the city of Van. As a construction technique, mudbrick walls were built on a stone foundation. Van houses, which are covered with flat dams supported by wooden beams, have hipped roofs seen in some examples today. As the plan type, they were built as single or two storeys, which were kept in the plan type with an encouraging inner sofa. Van is structured differently from other cities of the region in terms of residential architecture, construction technology and material usage. It is seen that adobe is used in the traditional Van houses instead of the movable stone, which is preferred as the basic building material in the region.
