Tünel
One Sublime Minute
The world’s second-oldest metro is also one of the world’s shortest - this tiny underground tram serves just two stops, İstiklal Caddesi and Karaköy. The Karaköy station is decorated with colourful, ornate Turkish tiles that make the minute-long ride even more memorable. Karaköy is home to the famous Galata Tower.
Music In Abundance
From the Tünel at one end to the Galata Kulesi at the other, the whole street is full of music and musical instruments. Dozens of shops sell guitars, pianos, traditional instruments like the Cümbüş, and Turkish cymbals. On some days you can catch performances of the whirling dervishes, which take place in the Galata Mevlevihanesi, the oldest Mevlevi Lodge of İstanbul, located at the end of the street. This side street is a great place to immerse yourself in İstanbul’s musical culture.
