Van Great Mosque

The rectangular planned mosque is included in the group of mosques with a dome in front of the mihrab and multi-supported mosques. The mosque is entered through a portal opened on the western corner of the north wall. A section was added to the north side during the Ottoman Period. The interior consists of a muqarnas dome covering the front of the mihrab and sections covered with cross vaults surrounding it from the sides. Its minaret, which has survived to the present day, rises in the northwest corner. It has a cylindrical body made of bricks and collapsed after the balcony. Even though it has not survived, it is understood from the old pictures that it actually has a very special interior in terms of ornamentation and architectural features. The decorations are concentrated on the interior walls, the altar and the portal on the exterior. The ornaments made of brick and plaster consist of geometric, floral and writing examples.
