Vize Little Hagia Sophia Gazi Süleyman Pasha Mosque

Vize, which was a strategic point for the conquest of Istanbul, was converted into the Little Hagia Sophia Church, Gazi Süleyman Pasha Mosque after it was conquered. The building, which was built in the 6th century during the reign of Justinian, served as a church for 8 centuries. The minaret and mihrab were added to the building, where the features of Byzantine architecture are seen. We can say that Little Hagia Sophia, which does not have a dome, still resembles a church. The changes made and the long time have caused some damage to this place of worship. Worse still, it was tried to be restored by incompetent people when it was on the verge of demolition. Fortunately, Little Hagia Sophia was arranged with the initiatives of Kırklareli Museum and Trakya University in 1997 and was restored in accordance with its original form in 2007 by the General Directorate of Foundations. This impressive architectural structure, which has an important place among Kırklareli mosques, is also very valuable in terms of spirituality, as it is one of the 9 Hagia Sophias in our country.
