Zal Pasha Mosque

The historical Tuğrul Bey Mosque, which is one of the first domed mosque examples of Anatolia and located on the Ahlat-Adilcevaz Highway, has been abandoned to its own devices. It is known that the historical mosque, which has no clear information about who built it, has a very old history and is one of the first domed mosques in Anatolia. This historical mosque, located on the shore of Lake Van and just at the entrance of Adilcevaz district, is understood by the authorities when it is visited that it does not receive the necessary care and attention. The historical Tuğrul Bey Mosque, located in the lower part of Adilcevaz Castle, is flooded by many local and foreign tourists. It is also known as the Zal Pasha Mosque among the people, as there is information that it was restored by Zal Pasha at the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century. In some sources, it is claimed that it was built by Mimar Sinan. On a small plaque hung at the entrance of the mosque, it is written that it was built by Mimar Sinan. In some sources, it is stated that such a mosque was not found in the works of Mimar Sinan. Tuğrul Bey Mosque, which has become an Anatolian wonder with its historical and natural beauty, is known to have been used as a salt depot for other than its own purpose, especially after the establishment of the Republic. Tuğrul Bey Mosque, which was not used for its purpose until 1965, was restored by the Regional Directorate of Foundations in 1965 and brought back to its former function.
