Zara Cemetery

During the First World War, a training barracks was established in Zara to reinforce the Eastern Front. A few large buildings in the vicinity were rented as the Field Hospital for the treatment of the wounded at the front. Those who did not heal were buried in this region, which is still a martyrdom. Later, the 1st Infantry Regiment was deployed instead of the training barracks. In 1928, the 36th Infantry Regiment came to the place evacuated by the 10th Infantry Regiment, which moved to Akşehir in 1927, and was stationed in Zara for about twenty years. This regiment was transferred to Ağrı in 1926. Martyrs of both regiments were buried here.

When it was arranged as a martyrdom in 1923, a monument was erected inside. The monument, which was destroyed over time, was rebuilt in the same manner, remaining faithful to the characteristics of the first monument built in 1967. More than 200 martyrs are buried in the cemetery, and 64 graves are arranged symbolically.

The first burials to the cemetery were made in 1915. A monument was erected in 1917 and renovated in 1967, 1974 and 1987.
